Country: Approximately 7,000 acres of flood out channel country along the Warianna Creek system. The balance is a good mixture of pebbly downs and heavy carrying open downs country. Como is very well covered with Mitchell, Flinders and native summer grasses as well as summer herbages and forbs such as button grass, pigweed and cow vine. There is a very good scattering of buffel grass along the creek systems and out on the tighter ridges. There is a light scattering of Whitewood and Vinetree on the downs country with a good spread of mainly Coolibah along the creek systems.
Rainfall: 425mm or 17 inch long term Hughenden district average. Como would have had over 500mm of rain for the summer.
Water: Como is very well watered with 2 artesian bores equipped to rual power, 1 share dam and several semi-permanent water holes along the channels. The original bore was drilled in 1907 to a depth of 869 metres. It ceased to flow in 1969. This bore is equipped with a submersible pump that is connected to a timer, pumping through 50mm pipeline to 6 x turkey nest that feed 18 concrete troughs. There is a solar pump and tank set up on the share dam. The 2nd bore was drilled in 1964 to a depth of 494 metres and it still flows at approximately 3000 gallons per hour into a bore drain when required. This bore can act as a back up supply to the other bore, running a threee phase mono surface pump and connecting into the existing pipeline. This bore has been pump tested at 25ltrs per second (20,000 gals per hour). There are 2 current irrigation licences and the licence for 25ha of cultivation. There is an inverter in the pump shed that will convert the single phase power supply to three phase power.
Improvements: There is a 3 bedroom living area as well as staff quarters. There is a large hay shed, several machinery sheds as well as a covered in workshop and vehicle shed. The 5 stand shearing shed is in good overall condition. The majority of the fencing is in very good condition consisting mostly of ring lock and 2 barbs. There are 9 main paddocks and 4 smaller holding paddocks. The yards are mainly timber and steel portable panels which include a calf cradle, drafting facility, crush and head bail.
